Top 5 Bicycle Repair Tool Kits

When it comes to bicycle tool kits, there are really two different types: those made for home or garage bike repair, and those made for emergency fixes and portability. We reviewed a ton of different bike repair kits, and we’ve come up with a list of the top five that are currently available for you to buy.

These include both home repair kits and portable “emergency” bike repair kits. To be fair, many of the “home” kits are portable enough to take on the road, but you probably wouldn’t want to bring them on your actual ride. That’s what the lighter weight emergency kits are for.

1. The Home Bicycle Repair Kit

Home Mechanic Bicycle Repair Kit

The Home Bicycle Repair Kit doesn’t seem to be branded, so we’re not sure who makes it, but it has very positive customer reviews and comes with everything you need to repair your bike, including: adjustable wrench, screw driver, tire wrench, chain rivet extractor, freewheel remover, and more.

It only costs $37.99 on Amazon.com which is a very reasonable price for a kit with this many tools in it, and it is relatively portable, so you can take it on the road if you need to.

2. Avenir Home Mechanic’s Tool Kit

Avenir Home Mechanic's Tool Kit
The Avenir Home Mechanic’s Tool Kit is another popular bike repair kit. It contains the basic essentials for almost any bike repair: hex wrenches, cone wrenches, adjustable wrenches, bracket removers, lockring removers, tire levers, etc.

It’s made by Avenir, a branch of Raleigh Bicycles, and it’s a little more expensive than the above Home Repair Kit.

At $53.48 it’s still a bargain, but some reviewers have been disappointed with the kit’s quality. You can read the negative reviews right here.

3. Home Mechanic Bicycle Tool Kit 37 pcs

The Home Mechanic Bike Repair Kit is made by the same brandless company as the first kit in the list, but this one comes with 37 pieces. It has great reviews and, oddly enough, costs about the same as the first one.

This is a solid bicycle repair kit. It’s got everything you need to fox up your ride, including extractors, screwdrivers, turners, wrenches, lever and lock ring tools.

This is a great start kit for anyone who needs the basic bike repair necessities. Check out the customer reviews on Amazon right here.

4. Park Tool RK-41 Portable Race/Ride Kit

Park Tool RK-41 Bike Repair KitThe Park Tool RK-41 Portable Race/Ride Kit is the most comprehensive portable kit we’ve seen. It comes in a the form of a back pack that unfolds to reveal just about every tool you would ever need to make quick repairs on you bike during a race or a casual ride.

The actual tool are high quality, and to be honest, this kit is more than enough to use at home or in the shop as well.

It’s more expensive than the other kits we’ve reviewed, but that’s because it was made to last and is more for serious bikers who have expensive, custom gear. Check it out.

5. Topeak Alien II 26-Function Bicycle Tool

Topeak Alien II Bike Repair ToolThe Topeak Alien II 26-Function Bicycle Tool is a small multi-function bike tool that includes everything you need for a quick repair. It is the least expensive and most portable kit on our list.

One cool thing about this tool is that you can separate it into two pieces for ease when making repairs. After you’re done, you reattach it so you don’t lose anything.

It has almost 180 reviews on Amazon.com, and they are pretty much all positive. If you need a simple, multi-function bike repair tool that you can use in the garage and on the road, the Topeak Alien II might be the one for you.
